A GENTLE YET POWERFUL WEEK-LONG RETREAT FOR CLAIMING THE POWER WITHIN YOU.
POWER. There is much confusion in the world about power: what it is, who holds it, how it works. There are also many misconceptions about power: that only the wealthy, the famous or the politically connected wield it, or that it always corrupts, for example.
For women in particular there is another layer of obstacles, such as the belief that power is not feminine, or that all men are threatened by powerful women. Consequently, too many people, especially — but certainly not exclusively — women, shy away from their own power.
In contrast to worldly or egoic power, soulful power is humble, quiet and unassuming, not abusive, arrogant or self-aggrandizing. It guides and inspires rather than dominates, controls or manipulates. Its source and reference are internal, rather than external. It’s about authentic self-expression, service and making a difference, and is not agenda-driven, selfish or self-serving. It is love-based rather than fear-based, inclusive rather than hierarchical. Not needing to exert itself over others, it stands freely on its own. It simply is. And it is mighty.
This week-long version of our three-day retreat takes place on the beautiful island of Moloka’i, Hawaii. We promise that, however you arrive, you will leave the island of Moloka’i gently yet powerfully transformed.
This retreat provides useful skills for engaging power in new ways, resulting in deeper levels of personal fulfillment, self-satisfaction and effectiveness in the world. You will emerge clearer, more established in your personal power and more resolved to express yourself fully.
Offering five or six breathwork sessions (depending on both the group and our schedule) over the course of seven days, this retreat both expands upon and deepens the experiences found in our three-day Soulful Power retreat.
HuiHoolana
The retreat will open the evening of Saturday, May 8 with a quiet meal, opening ritual and our first Transformational Breathing session. Successive Transformational Breathwork sessions will be offered most days, and the retreat will close in ritual on Friday mid-day, May 15.
In addition to the breathwork and group sessions, each participant will receive a Life Purpose Consulting session, focused on awaking your inner power.
Generous amounts of personal time will be set aside on most days of the retreat, allowing time for hiking, swimming, relaxing, resting, feeling, and reflecting upon our lives. This location, Hui Ho’olana, is a very special, spiritual place. It is rustic and quiet, and we will be the only group on site. There is a gorgeous pool and lots of hiking trails onsite.
Extraordinary meals will be offered throughout the week by the staff of the Hui Ho’olana Retreat Center (primarily vegetarian with some chicken and fish dishes).
Participants are encouraged to arrange a massage during their visit (at additional cost). Molokai resident Maleko has trained extensively with Hawaiian kahunas and provides an exceptional bodywork session and healing experience. You will have the opportunity to make appointments with him upon arrival.
At least one group outing to a nearby beach will take place during the week.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE INFORMATION
You are responsible for getting your self to and from Moloka’i, arriving on the island prior to the commencement of the retreat on May 8, and departing on or after the afternoon of May 14. Travel costs are not included in the tuition for this retreat.
ARRIVAL AT MKK: BEFORE 5:00 p.m. on Saturday May 8
DEPARTURE FROM MKK: AFTER 3:00 p.m. on Friday May 14
We request that you schedule your arrival on Moloka’i for before 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, and that you book a return flight departing Moloka’i AFTER 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14. You can arrange for us to pick you up at the airport and/or the Molokai Lodge between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on May 8 and/or return to either of these destinations upon our departure from the Hui on May 14. Car rentals are available at the airport. We recommend you make reservations for both car and/or lodging well in advance. If you are coming from or headed to other locations on Molokai, we ask that you plan to take a taxi.
DO NOT schedule your arrival flight for after the arrival time, or your departure flight for before the departure time or date (as listed above). If you find no way to arrive or depart between these specified times, please contact us immediately. Thank you.
TRAVELING TO HAWAII
We highly recommend you take advantage of your trip to Hawaii and arrange to stay additional days before and/or after the retreat on one or more of these magical islands. Be aware that Moloka’i is very quiet and peaceful, an island that so far has avoided tourist development on the whole. As such, do keep in mind that there are few amenities and little to do but rest and be on this island (which are of course highly recommended things to do both before and after this retreat). That said, if you are looking for something more than pure peace and quiet for the rest of your stay in Hawaii — we personally recommend Maui, Kaua’i and the Big Island — and of course all the other islands are beautiful as well. If you would like some suggestions as to what to do or where to go during your stay, let us know and we can put you in contact with people we know who are now living on the islands.
NOTE: If you are traveling from the East Coast you must take one of the earliest flights out on May 9 in order to arrive at the retreat on time. Also, it is recommended you spend one or more nights in Honolulu or on the West Coast to make your return easier (i.e. rather than taking a red-eye).
A web search on Orbitz (on October 6, 2007) found the following air fares to Moloka’i (sans red-eye fares, which are cheaper):
San Francisco: ~ $565 (via Delta, Hawaiian and Pacific Wings)
Los Angeles: ~ $415 (via American Airlines and Go!Express)
New York: ~ $777 (via Continental Airlines)
A brief check of both Orbitz and Island Air websites revealed an approximately $50 savings by booking the flights from the mainland separately from your inter-island flights.
It is generally not more expensive to book travel to Moloka’i separate from your travel to and from Hololulu. Indeed, booking separately is often recommended: Sometimes it is much less expensive, as often major airlines charge less to go to the more popular Hawaiian destinations than to Molokai. If you combine one of these more affordable packages — say, to Honolulu — with direct flights from Honolulu to Molokai via Island Air, you can often save money. Your primary airline will still be able to check your bags through to Molokai, provided the flights are on the same day.
DO NOT take Hawaiian Air to Moloka’i (unless they are codesharing what is actually an Island Air flight)– their flights to Moloka’i are cancelled frequently.
Island Air (which codeshares with United, Continental and Hawaiian) offers two flights from Honolulu — Flight 28 and Flight 1222 — that land on Moloka’i within the “pick-up window” of 2:30 – 5:00 p.m.
It is recommended that you allow 1 – 1 1/2 hours to change planes in Honolulu Airport — 1 hour if heading to Moloka’i, 1 1/2 hours if headed back to the mainland.
Return flights from Moloka’i
Unfortunately, due to the retreat schedule, only red-eye flights are available on May 15 back to the mainland. As such we strongly recommend participants plan to spend at least one extra day on the islands. As mainland flights only depart from Oahu and Maui, you may want to plan these extra day(s) on one of those islands, or else plan on departing very early the next morning.
If you are flying back to the East Coast, you must take the very earliest flight from Oahu or Maui in order to avoid a red-eye flight — and may want to consider spending a day or more on the west coast, as an alternative (which we highly recommend, to make your return a more gentle one).
We recommend you obtain trip insurance, though this is of course only optional and at your discretion.
RETREAT PREPARATION
RETREAT INFORMATION FORM
Once you register, we will be sending you a Retreat Information Form for you to complete either online or by mail prior to the retreat.
Though no other retreat preparation is truly required, there are ways you can maximize the value you will receive from this retreat:
PREPARE FOR YOUR RETURN
Of all the preparation you can do for this retreat, we recommend most of all that you prepare for your return before you depart for Hawaii.
Physical Environment: If you tend to leave your home or your desk at work a mess, arrange time to clean them before you leave. Bring your physical space (home, work, desk, car, etc.) into a place of integrity as much as possible before you depart for the retreat. Give “the Self you will be” upon your return this great gift — you will be very glad you did.
The more organized and clean your physical environment is made before you leave, the more you will have created a powerful environment and space for action within the realm of your Life Purpose — ready for you upon your return.
Recovery and Integration: We recommend at least one day of recovery time once you return home, to allow for rest and integration. During this time, we recommend you schedule a massage, if possible, and that you do other gentle yet mindful activities to support your integration (stretching, yoga, taking a bath or hot tub, meditation, a quiet meal or two with friends or family, journaling and writing). Try to reduce potential stress on your self as much as possible during this time, as well as in the few days following.
Time for Reflection: Plan some time in the week or two following to reflect upon the retreat and how you will integrate it into your life.
Time for “Lifework”: Also, you will likely have assigned yourself some — and possibly quite a bit — of “lifework” by the end of the retreat. As such, especially if you tend to fill up your life with work and activities, we recommend you prepare for this by clearing some of your personal schedule (2 or 3 evenings a week) in the weeks and months after the retreat, in advance, to allow time for you to accomplish this “Life Purpose Integration” homework.
POWER REVIEW
Prior to the retreat, we recommend you spend time with your Self, considering the use of power in and around your life. You may also wish to take time to assess your life up until this point, looking both at what is working and what is not working in your life today. Consider what the highest and best use of your life might be — for your self, for friends, family and community, and for our world as a whole, and look at what might be stopping you now from living in this way. If you have already taken our Soulful Powerretreat, look at how you have lived since you have last taken this retreat, and where you would like to take your life now — and how you might use this retreat to accelerate your stepping further and more powerfully into your life purpose.
TRANSFORMATIONAL BREATHWORK Several transformational breathwork sessions in the weeks or months prior to the retreat are recommended, whenever possible (consider doing a Google search for “breathwork” or “rebirthing” and your city and state, to see if there are breathwork practitioners listed on the web in your area).
You may also wish to participate in our three-day Soulful Power retreat prior to attending the week-long retreat on Moloka’i. We offer our core three-day retreat a number of times throughout the year on both the West and East coasts.
Again, other than the Retreat Information Form, the above are simply recommendations — none of them are required or necessary in order to have an incredibly powerful and life changing experience with this retreat. Doing some or all of the above will simply assist you in maximizing the power and possibility available to you out of this retreat.
